Rome Lesson Plan
ASSIGNMENT
They said it couldn't be done, but together your class will build ancient Rome--in a day!
Working individually or in pairs or groups of three, students will build the monuments of imperial Rome. The list of monuments can be found in the Student Assignment Packet to the right and on the "Monuments" page of this website.
Then on one day, the class will assemble all of the buildings to create a walk-through model of ancient Rome, which will be on display all day. To showcase their accomplishment, students will wear togas and give tours of the city.
SCALE MODEL
In order for the buildings fit together, they must all be built to the same scale. Complete instructions for drawing the blueprints to scale can be found in the Student Assignment Packet above.
MATERIALS

Suggested materials: cardboard, poster board, and foam board make succesful construction materials for this project. White straws, coffee stirrers, lollipop sticks and small wooden dowels make good columns.
RESEARCH
Students will need to find images of what their monument looked like in ancient times in order to construct their models.
They will also fill out an information chart on their monument. They will find the data for this chart by researching the monument on the Internet.
BUILDING ROME
On the due date, students will bring their monuments to school, and they will build Rome in a day!
Dressed in togas and using the information from their research, the class will give tours of the city.
